Lip Syncing Practice

This video is of myself lip syncing to Ellie Golding- Your Song. I feel that this video is not as strong as my other group member's video, Karina, as she used more facial expressions to put forward emotions. These emotions would help the audience to understand the lyrics of the song more where as my video does not show these emotions clearly meaning that as a result people could become confused. This would be bad for the marketing of our artist as people would not want to buy future singles of albums and they might not take us seriously. On the other hand, I think that my actual lip singing and syncing went well, however I could have extenuated my mouth movements more as when the sound of the video is louder it looks less like I am signing. We like the idea of having the artist face on to the camera against a plain background singing as it allows the audience to see the artist clearly and get what they are about. We would not use this type of background but we like the overall look of this mid-shot.
For Karina's video we used the same song that we were able to compare the two videos of ourselves. Karina was a lot more confident and she was good at extenuating her mouth movements to make the lip singing look convincing. Her facial expressions match the lyrics and she used strong eye contact with the camera which makes her appear even more confident. The shot of my video was wider than Karina. We used a different frame in Karina's video in order to experiment with the aesthetics of our camera look. We like the overall look of both shots. Karina's frame size forces the audience to focus more upon the facial expressions of the artists where as my frame size in the first video gives the audience an insight into the location of the shot. The reveal of the location would help reveal the role of the narrative which is something that we wanted to have in our video.

Frankie's video was fairly similar to mine. However, it is good that she used a different genre of song as we were able to compare which type of song is easier to lip sing. Frankie was not very good at portraying emotion in comparison to Karina: however, we can see that she is confident on camera and therefore maybe she would be the right person for our narrative elements within our video. As Karina is stronger, we feel that she should be the artist because she will stand out and make a clear connection with the audience. Frankie managed to lip sing a fast song really well and although she will not be the artist she is more confident in front of the camera than myself. Frankie used direct eye contact where as I was clearly uncomfortable. I feel that my participation would be most useful in filming the video behind the camera or in editing stages. Karina and Frankie will most definitely take part in both filming and editing however they will also be concentrating on acting within the video and I will play a more substantial role in filming and editing.

  1. WWW: You have successfully lip synched against the music.
EBI: You need to ensure you put more emphasis into your performance and reflect on this underneath your video (can also be shown in production diary).

  2. I have reflected on our performances underneath the videos to show what I have learnt and to show my analysis.
