Costume for Day 1

The first picture shows Frankie who is playing our actress. Her final costume for the beach scene consists of basic clothing; with simple colours, as we want our artist to stand out more and be the main source of focus when on screen. The brown waxed-look coat is in fashion right now and would therefore be relatable to our audience. People watching the music video might want to know where the coat is from: this is something that me, Karina and Frankie all do when watching music videos (idolise stars and their styles). The coat implies that the whether is bad; suggesting to the audience that this is also how the actress feels: this also relates to the lyrics of the song. The coat is also symbolic of how she is scared and insecure. What has happened to her has obviously had a hard hitting impact and she is remaining covered up as an attempt to not be noticed. Along with this, Frankie is wearing an oversized black blouse. The fact that the blouse is oversized shows how he character is careless and has no shame: she clearly does not care about what others think of her as the person she loved has left her heartbroken. The dull colours of black and brown are symbolic of the underlying sinister ways of love and how the actress is going through a deeply bad time. Again, the blouse keeps her well covered almost as if she is sheltering away from the world. Frankie is also seen to be wearing ripped tights. This implies that the actress has been running through the woods or that she has fallen over: showing how she is trying to run away from her emotions. She does not care that her tights have large holes in them and again she is clearly going through a hard time. All of this is relatable to the lyrics.

Our artist is played by Karina. Due to her status she needs to stand out more than the actress in the video. This is why we had her wear a long skirt that reveals some of her flesh. As an aspiring mainstream artist, alike to Rihanna and Rita Ora, we have shown some of her flesh to make her appeal to our secondary target audience of teenage boys. The use of the split skirts provides sex appeal, however the way in which the artist acts portrays her in a respectable manner in order to appeal to teenage girls. The skirt is very loose around the middle and the bottom and it flows freely. We choose to use this skirt for the beach location as it would blow in the wind and this would have an edgy impact when on screen. From research I have found that often in music videos fans are used to create wind in the artist hair as this creates interesting movement. The skirt and her hair blowing in the wind by the sea would make appear dream like and this is something that all stars are to many of their fans: this is why we choose to do this. I like the use of the boots as they suit our genre. They are rocky and funky which fits our genre of electro-pop. The baggy jumper makes our artist appear cool and the use of tie-dye shows her to be in with the fashion. We want our artist to make an impression and this is why she is seen to be wearing a statement necklace. Overall I think that our artist Faith does look very realistic.

  1. WWW: you have gone into a lot of detail in terms of mise en scene which is really good to keep in mind and discussing throughout the progress of filming. Comparing the girls to other artists shows where you have found your inspiration and can link it back to when you started the project.

EBI: you added a few more images. It could show more detail to the outfits. You could also mention on the lighting - you have included the scenery which is good but the lighting would complete mise en scene.
